Kermi, Claudia and Ardjuna
Ankermi was founded by Kermi who had his first small resort in Moni next to Kelimutu colored lakes. Later on Kermi moved to Maumere to find a good location for his own at Watumita together with Claudia. They both started a business together than they got married and now have a son, Ardjuna.
The food is personally prepared by Kermi using only fresh locally produced products. For vegetarians, kermi is especially careful that the meat or fish is not mixed with the vegetables and the salad. There is always a sufficient amount to eat and the food is divine.
Kermi's family really love nature, especially the coral reefs of Maumere Bay; they are committed to protecting them. They love the local culture and tradition too. They have been part of traditional celebrations, learned about traditional medicines and healers, and have incorporated them in their offering to foreign visitors.
They have taken to growing organic vegetables and rice, facilitated by an abundant water supply.
The staff at Ankermi are all local people. They always buy local products for their bungalow supply along with local organic vegetables, rice and fish provided by local farmers.
We recommend guests to actively go to the sea either near the hotel or to visit the small islands offshore. Snorkelling or diving options are available. The constant presence of foreigners at the sea may directly influence the local people and stop them from using destructive fishing methods, such as bombing and the use of poisons. The guests are also encouraged to speak with the local fishermen and learn about fishing practices.
