Mr. Laarhoven
Adrian Laarhoven is the owner of the hotel and is also married to an Indonesian lady who is native to Savu island of the Lesser Sunda islands. He decided to build Bay View Gardens Hotel in Labuanbajo as he found the location is unique. Whilst his hobby is gardening and having pet animals. It is the reason why Bay View Gardens Hotel is so green. The Bay View Gardens Hotel wants to set an example of a self-sustaining small business. We collect and multiply hundreds of species of plants and give them away to local people who take the plants and start their own gardens. In addition, the hotel plants a lot of trees & plants which attract butterflies and birds with the view to gain a micro-climate (green) in the arid climate of Labuanbajo. The hotel produces solar heated water and collects the rain water from the roofs into a 200,000 litre reservoir, with all the waste water being treated and used to water the hotels garden.
The Bay View Gardens Hotel grows some of the vegetables and herbs used to supply the needs of the hotel and the rest are bought from the local markets which sell locally produced goods.
The hotel employs local staffs which undergoes regular training to perform their day to day duties to the best of their ability and stay well skilled. Lastly, part of the hotel profits go back to some of the families on Savu Island.
