The program shows you the rich mixture of culture set perfectly in a beautiful natural setting. From soaring volcanoes to three colored crater lakes to traditional villages and Komodo dragons!

Day 01 ARRIVAL MAUMERE drive to MONI or DETUSOKO

Upon arrival in Maumere meeting service and then drive to Moni or Detusoko. If time permits, visit some villages en route such as Lisedetu or Ranggase, where the typical and traditional Lio Tribe houses are located.

Day 02 MONI - KELIMUTU - BAJAWA

Early morning, drive up to the three-coloured lake of Kelimutu, one of Indonesia's most dramatic sights. Return to Moni for breakfast, and then continue to Ende for its traditional market. Lunch at a local restaurant, then drive towards Nuabosi, which offers wonderful views of the town and Ende Bay. Then proceed to Bajawa with a stop at Penggajawa Beach, where people are collecting blue pebbles for living (export) and then proceed to Wogo village, with rows of traditional houses.

Day 03 BAJAWA - RUTENG

Bajawa is located in the heart of Ngadha ethnic civilization, which is known for its megalithic cultures. There are traditional villages with unique stone monuments, ancestor worship shrines and Adat Houses. The hamlets are beautifully settled in the volcanic mountainous area. The most beautiful ones are Luba and Bena. Visit to these villages and in the afternoon drive to Ruteng. It is another beautiful driving day; you will pass by through scenic villages and lush rain forests. En route stop at Ranamese Lake and trace the trail into the cloudy and mystic forest around the lake. Proceed to Ruteng.

Day 04 RUTENG - LABUAN BAJO - RINCA - KOMODO On-board

Ruteng is a small town in the backbone of Flores and neighbor to the Ruteng Nature Conservation Park - the home of Ngkiong - the endemic singing birds. It is worth to visit the Park early in the morning to attend nature's concert of singing birds (if there is no rain and strong winds). There is also a newly popped up volcano in the park. Take your chance to have a closer look into it. En route to Labuan Bajo stop at Cara village in Cancar area to see the unexposed world wonder - the Lingko - spider web shaped rice fields. It is probably the only rice field of this kind that exists on earth. Arrive in Labuan Bajo, transfer to the harbor and set sail to Rinca Island. Upon arrival in Rinca, take a trek to trace the dragons and the wildlife of the park. Lunch and dinner on board. Sail by night to Komodo.

Day 05 KOMODO - LABUANBAJO

It is nice to wake up early in the morning in the nature. Calm water and serenity fills the morning. Breakfast on board while sailing to Komodo Village. It is the native Komodo settlement. The village once planned to be removed from the National Park but then the goverment realized that Komodo People are part of Komodo National Park. Visit the village to comprehend the daily life of the Komodo Natives. Then sail to Loh Liang the main harbor of Komodo National Park to take another chance to trace the dragons in the wild. On the way to Labua Bajo stop at Pantai Merah or Pink coloured sand beach with crystal clear water, beautiful coral gardens and plenty of tropical coral fishes. It is an excellent place to swim, for sun bathing and snorkeling. Stay there until the afternoon. Return to Labuan Bajo. Overnight at Labuan Bajo.

Day 06 LABUAN BAJO - NEXT DESTINATION

Morning free program. Before transfer to the airport, visit Batu Cermin - the cave with stalactite and stalagmite.



Participant guidelines

This is not a leisure program but exploring the new frontiers in a third world country. Be prepared for the following facts:

  • Lesser Sunda Islands is a newly developed destination. The facilities at most of the accommodations, restaurants and transportation are still of a very basic standard
  • Do not expect to get hot water in the bathrooms, soft and thick mattresses in all the lodges, or international standardized services in all the hotels and restaurants. Anyway, Maumere and Labuanbajo offer good quality hotels with amenities of modern hotels


Luggage: Kindly bring light baggage due to the limited space on the aircraft and land transport. It is better not to bring large suitcases but soft cover bags and overnight carriers. It is advised to pack light, appropriate clothing and wear sneakers or rubber soled shoes. Bring along jackets and pullovers for the visit to the high altitude destinations such as Kelimutu, Bajawa and Ruteng.

Komodo National Park: Your visit to Komodo National Park is your contribution to the conservation programs in the park. It is obligatory for you to contribute $15 USD per person as conservation fees. The fund is used by the authorities to protect the environment of Komodo National Park.
