Penti in Waerebo

Penti is an important event for Manggarai ethnic who occupy the west end of Flores Island - Indonesia. It lasts from morning til dawn. Various sacred rituals and cultural attractions dedicated to the ancestors and nature will be performed during the day.

Village elders walk to the village entrance to greet guests from the neighboring villages.

Caci - the martial art of Manggarai will be performed during the day whilst Sanda, a dance together which forming a circle will last all night long! The ceremony is performed annually in mid of November as a signal of the beginning of the farming season based upon the unique agriculture calendar.
